Abstract

This paper presents a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) of Donald Trump's 2025 Inaugural Address, a text that marks his return to the presidency. Utilizing Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model (text, discursive practice, social practice) and incorporating insights from Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), this study examines the linguistic strategies employed to construct ideological positions, legitimize power, and shape social realities. The analysis reveals a discourse built upon a rigid "us vs. them" dichotomy, a narrative of national crisis and salvific restoration, and the use of authoritarian and populist rhetoric. Key findings indicate that the speech functions to centralize power in the executive, vilify opposition, foster social division, and promote a nationalist, anti-globalist agenda under the guise of "liberation" and "renewal." This study concludes that the address exemplifies a potent form of authoritarian populism, with significant implications for democratic norms and social cohesion.
