Kalaburagi district, previously called Gulbarga, is a prominent area in northern Karnataka known for its rich cultural heritage and changing economy. The district has been primarily agricultural, producing major crops like pulses, cotton, and groundnuts. However, in recent decades, it has seen growth in industry and services. Known as the "Cement Hub of Karnataka," Kalaburagi plays a significant role in the state’s economy through its cement, granite, and agro-based industries. This paper aims to explore the historical, geographical, economic, and social aspects of Kalaburagi. It will examine the district's role in Karnataka's regional development and identify challenges and opportunities for sustainable growth. Using secondary data from government reports, census statistics, and published literature, this study offers a complete view of the district's transformation and future prospects.
