EXPERIENCES OF TEACHERS IN CONDUCTING ACTION RESEARCH: A QUALITATIVE STUDY

Abstract
This research explored and investigated the experiences of teachers in conducting action research. It employed the phenomenological qualitative research design. Wherein in-depth interview and focus group discussion were done to selected eleventh teachers who have already experienced in conducting action research. The interview focused on teachers' experiences in conducting action research and teachers perceived the importance of action research in the classroom. The study revealed that experiences in conducting action research are ambiguous in nature and the process of doing action research, assistance from others to complete their action research, and a tool for delivering instruction. Teachers perceived the importance of action research in the classroom resulted in intervention for the teaching and learning process, innovative quality teaching, and an aide for assessing learners’ performance.
As a recommendation, the study invoked that the entire district should designate a research coordinator to strengthen research education and encourage teachers in the field to conduct in their respective schools, the school heads should continuously support teachers in conducting action research by providing technical assistance to them or motivating them to participate in research in division or regional level, the district should have a plan for a seminar-workshop about action research to formally updates teachers in the new format as well as the process of doing it, Master Teachers are encouraged to make action research and do training design in school so that teachers will know action research, teachers are encouraged to conduct action research to further enhance the teaching-learning process in the classroom and be able to sustain the connectivity between the problem and the solution for the intervening process, and lastly, the Division office should strengthen research education by disseminating clear programs to encourage teachers and future researchers to participate in the research congress.
