Abstract
Schiff bases derived from 5-bromosalicylaldehyde represent a versatile class of imine ligands with notable biological and catalytic properties. This review provides an in depth analysis of the preparation methods, structural characteristics, metal-binding properties and potential applications of these ligands and their corresponding metal complexes. Typical ligands are generated by condensation of 5-bromosalicylaldehyde with various primary amines including para‑toluidine, amino‑thiophenols, sulfadiazine derivatives and heterocyclic amines yielding imines with phenolic (-OH) and azomethine (-C=N-) functionality that chelate with metal ions in bidentate or tetradentate modes.
