Abstract
This phenomenological study explores the lived experiences of eight hinterland teachers in Talaingod District (Sto. Niño, Dagohoy, Palma Gil) as they implement modern, student-centered teaching approaches in remote, Indigenous settings. Using semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis, the study found that teachers face severe resource constraints (materials, electricity, internet), language barriers (Ata-Manobo), multigrade demands, and socioeconomic challenges. Despite these barriers, teachers demonstrate strong creativity and resilience, adapting by utilizing low-tech/local materials, simplifying ICT activities, employing contextualized pedagogy, and leveraging community support. Key recommendations include localized professional development, infrastructure and hardship support, culturally responsive curricula, and stronger community-school partnerships.
