ASSESSING THE DISASTER LITERACY AND READINESS OF THE SCHOOLS IN DAVAO DE ORO DIVISION

This study evaluated the disaster literacy and readiness of selected schools in the Davao de Oro Division, focusing on school heads, teachers, and learners. It examined their understanding and preparedness regarding Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), the implementation of DRRM policies, and participation in activities such as drills, training, and coordination with local disaster agencies. A descriptive-correlational research design was used, utilizing survey questionnaires for data collection. Statistical analysis measured the levels of disaster literacy and readiness and explored the relationship between them. Findings revealed that school heads, teachers, and students exhibited similar levels of disaster literacy, indicating a shared understanding of DRRM concepts. However, their preparedness levels differed. School heads showed higher readiness, while teachers and students demonstrated moderate preparedness. This suggests a gap between knowledge and practical readiness, especially among learners and educators. The study recommends enhancing DRRM education through continuous training, community-based risk assessments, and curriculum integration. It also emphasizes building stronger partnerships between schools and local DRRM councils to improve coordination and response. Implementing these measures will help schools in Davao de Oro become more disaster-resilient, ensuring a safer and more prepared learning environment for all stakeholders involved in education.
