A Quantitative Inquiry on the Influence of Emotional Intelligence and Decision-Making Style on Effective School Leadership

The main purpose of the study was to determine the relationship and influence of emotional intelligence in terms of self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy, motivation, and social skills, and decision-making style in terms of rational, dependent, intuitive, avoidant, and spontaneous on effective school leadership in terms of leadership style, organizational culture, and cultural context. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, this study sought to find out the relationship among three variables. The study used two adapted instruments for emotional intelligence, effective school leadership, and decision-making style. The emotional intelligence survey consists of 35 items, while the decision-making style survey contains 25 items, and the effective school leadership survey comprises 21 items. The study involved 271 public school teachers from 10 public schools in Tagum City as respondents. The study found that there was a significant relationship between school heads’ emotional intelligence and decision-making styles with effective school leadership. The results showed that effective school leadership was influenced by the school heads’ ability to manage emotions and make sound decisions. It is recommended that school heads pursue continuous professional development focused on emotional intelligence and collaborative decision-making to further enhance their leadership effectiveness.
