INVESTIGATING STUDENTS ETHICAL BEHAVIOR IN HIGHER LEARNING INSTITUTIONS OF TANZANIA: A CASE STUDY OF CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF MBEYA

This paper examines students’ ethical behavior in higher learning institutions of Tanzania: a case study of catholic university of Mbeya. It aims at preserving academic integrity and promotes a supportive learning environment. It is imperative that ethical behavior among students in higher education institutions be investigated. It entails comprehending the variables that affect moral decisions, spotting instances of immoral behavior, and putting tactics into place to encourage moral behavior. The paper has used mixed approach: quantitative and qualitative. The researcher applied questionnaires and interviews tools to collect the data. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze quantitative data using frequencies, percentages, and mean scores. Thematic analysis was used to analyze qualitative data where themes were developed, relevant information was extracted, interpreted, discussed, and finally presented. The findings reveal that 80% of the respondents confirmed that students observe and adhere to ethical frameworks and professional guidelines. It is concluded that students demonstrate moderate ethical behaviors. This is supported by the average mean score of the respondents which is 2.62. The paper recommends that students in higher learning institution should develop and demonstrate ethical behaviors because ethical behaviors shape students’ performance.
