Abstract
MELAS stands for Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes. It is a rare progressive mitochondrial disorder that primarily affects the nervous system and muscles. A 18year old female was reportedly well until two-year ago when she began to complain of frequent migraines, sometimes associated with nausea and vomiting. over time. her school performance declined, and she developed fatigue with minimal exertion. three days before hospital admission, she had a generalized tonic-clonic seizure followed by confusion and difficulty speaking. The next day she developed weakness in the right arm and leg, hearing loss, diabetes, MEALS syndrome is progressive mitochondrial disorder, and although there is no cure, several interventions aim to manage symptoms, improve quality of life, and slow disease progression. although there is no definitive cure, early diagnosis and supportive interventions such as seizure management and physical therapies can improve quality of life and disease progression
