Abstract
This study explores the concept of sports diplomacy and its impact on strengthening international relations. Sports are no longer just competitive events or recreational activities; they have become a powerful diplomatic tool for fostering communication and mutual understanding among nations. The research highlights the historical development of sports diplomacy and its role in promoting cultural exchange, political dialogue, and economic cooperation. It examines how major sporting events, such as the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, serve as platforms for diplomatic engagement, reducing tensions between rival nations, and encouraging global unity. Additionally, the study analyzes the role of athletes and international sports organizations in advancing diplomatic initiatives and promoting universal values such as tolerance and respect. The research focuses on successful case studies, particularly Qatar’s experience in utilizing sports diplomacy to enhance its global standing. Through hosting major sports events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup and investing in international football clubs, Qatar has effectively built a positive global image and strengthened its international relations. The study demonstrates how sports diplomacy can be used as a soft power strategy, allowing small and medium-sized countries to expand their influence, improve their global perception, and foster diplomatic ties. Ultimately, the research concludes that sports have evolved into a crucial diplomatic force capable of resolving conflicts, improving international relations, and supporting socio-economic development. It recommends expanding the use of sports as a tool for peace-building and international cooperation, leveraging past successes to create new opportunities for diplomatic engagement and cultural exchange.
