Abstract
Borewell accidents involving children continue to pose significant rescue challenges in India, especially in rural areas. While robotic systems have been proposed as effective alternatives to manual rescue, limited studies have focused on the real-time performance and field viability of such systems. This paper presents the experimental evaluation and performance analysis of a robotic rescue system developed for extracting children trapped in borewells. The system integrates a camera-assisted gripper, Bluetooth-controlled arm, and real-time depth sensing. Through simulated rescue scenarios using vertical shafts and weighted dummies, the system was tested for speed, accuracy, reliability, and grip precision. Results demonstrate that the system can perform a complete rescue cycle in under three minutes with 90% success in gripping trials. The paper also outlines key limitations and recommendations for future real-world deployment.
