Abstract
The "Automated Reminder Medicine Box for Aged Persons" is an innovative IoT-based healthcare
project designed to assist elderly individuals in managing their medication schedules efficiently and
reliably. Medication non-adherence is a prevalent issue among the elderly, often leading to severe
health complications, increased hospital admissions, and elevated healthcare costs. This project
addresses such challenges by integrating embedded systems technology with smart healthcare
solutions to ensure timely medication intake. At its core, the system employs a microcontroller that
interfaces with various hardware components, including infrared (IR) sensors, real-time clock (RTC),
LED indicators, buzzers, and a GSM module. The IR sensors are strategically placed to detect pill
removal from each compartment, enabling real-time monitoring of medication consumption. When it
is time to take a dose, the system triggers visual alerts through LEDs and audible alerts via buzzers to
prompt the user. In the event a dose is missed, the GSM module escalates the alert system by sending
automated SMS messages and initiating voice calls to caregivers or healthcare providers, ensuring
timely intervention. The inclusion of multi-language support makes the system accessible to users
from diverse linguistic backgrounds, addressing communication barriers and enhancing usability for
those with limited literacy or cognitive challenges.
