Abstract

This study examines disparities in educational attainment levels among Scheduled Caste (SC) women in rural Nadia district, West Bengal. Based on primary data from 600 households across fifteen villages, eight SC communities were surveyed. Using a weighted score method, caste-wise distribution of female educational attainment was analyzed across eight educational levels. Results revealed that the Namasudra community achieved the highest female literacy rate, while the Kaibarta caste recorded the lowest. Aggregate weighted scores ranked Namasudra first, followed by Poundra, Muchi, and Bagdi. Bauri registered the lowest educational attainment. This study highlights significant caste-based educational inequalities among SC women in Nadia and emphasizes the importance of targeted interventions to promote inclusive education.
