Abstract
This study presents a critical comparison between the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) and the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST) in India. Both frameworks aim to elevate teacher quality and improve student outcomes, but they differ in structure, focus areas, and implementation strategies. While the APST, developed by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL), is highly detailed with clear descriptors across four career stages, the NPST, developed by India's National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), offers a broader, more flexible model emphasizing core values, knowledge, and professional growth across three stages. The analysis highlights the strengths and limitations of each framework and offers recommendations for leveraging best practices to enhance teacher professionalism and education systems globally.
