Abstract
The increasing adoption of DevOps practices has highlighted the critical role of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) in modern software development for optimizing operational efficiency. This research provides a comparative analysis of two prominent CI/CD tools, Jenkins and GitHub Actions, focusing on their capabilities in streamlining software deployment processes. The study examines the architectural differences, workflow definitions, integration capabilities, scalability, cost implications, security features, and community support offered by each tool. Furthermore, it incorporates a practical implementation of end-to-end CI/CD pipelines for a web application using both Jenkins and GitHub Actions, including a comparative analysis of their build times across five consecutive runs. The findings reveal distinct advantages and disadvantages for each platform. Jenkins offers extensive customization and a vast plugin ecosystem, while GitHub Actions provides seamless integration with the GitHub platform and ease of use. The practical performance analysis indicated a slightly faster average build time for GitHub Actions in the specific implementation scenario. This research contributes to a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of Jenkins and GitHub Actions, providing valuable insights for organizations seeking to optimize their software deployment workflows and select the most suitable CI/CD tool for their needs.
