Abstract
The study examined strategies for quality adult education facilitators’ preparation for effective facilitation of adult vocational training education programmes. Although, adult education programmes are designed to expose would be adult learners to various government adult vocational training programmes to cater for their socio-economic needs in the society. A substantial number of adults in the society lack basic vocational traning and literacy education for everyday living. As a result of this gap, the study was designed to investigate the challenges confronting adult education vocational programmes and factors that could enhance effective performance of adult education facilitators’ preparation in facilitating vocational adult education in various learning centres. The study was conducted in 8 local government areas of the state.. Descriptive survey research design was used. Data collection methods included closed and open-ended questionnaires. 50 adult learners facilitators were used for the study across all the Local Government Areas. Findings revealed major challenges faced by adult learners facilitators in adult vocational education for the learners included: insufficient funds from government and non-governmental organizations to run the programmes, inadequate supervision to oversee the instructional materials and activities of adult learners facilitators’ preparation for vocational programmes with the increasing number of learners beyond the capacity of each of the centres. The findings suggest adequate training and retaining of facilitators in order to be abreast of the needs, content, methods, and materials used for the vocational education training with proper monitoring of expenditure to check wastage and fraud among officials.
