Abstract
This research examines the integration of digital technologies in geology education in Madagascar, analyzing structural, socioeconomic, and pedagogical challenges specific to the Malagasy context. Through a mixed-method approach combining PESTEL analysis and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM2), the study investigates both macro-environmental factors and individual adoption behaviors. Data collection involved document analysis and questionnaires administered to 28 student-teachers. Findings reveal a significant disconnection between teachers’ willingness to adopt digital tools and infrastructural constraints. Key obstacles include policy issues, underfunding, limited internet access, and insufficient teacher training. Despite these challenges, teachers recognize the potential of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enhance geology learning. The research identifies three core dynamics: the “Malagasy adoption paradox” (strong intention despite constraints), the compensatory effect of perceived usefulness, and digital cultural duality (preference for traditional teaching alongside recognition of digital benefits). Recommendations include strengthening digital infrastructure in rural areas, developing contextualized training programs, creating multilingual educational content, implementing mentorship initiatives, and establishing coordinated public-private partnerships for sustainable digital transformation.
