Abstract
The “Fully Automated Traffic Light Controller System for a Four-Way Intersection Using Verilog” aims to design an efficient and reliable traffic management system to regulate vehicular and pedestrian movement at a four-way intersection. Traffic control is a critical aspect of modern urban infrastructure, and the proposed system addresses the challenges of congestion, safety, and efficiency. This project employs Verilog, a hardware description language, to model and simulate the functionality of the traffic light controller. The design incorporates sequential logic to ensure that traffic lights follow a predefined, conflict-free sequence for all four directions of the intersection. The controller operates on a time-based algorithm, ensuring equal and fair distribution of signal duration across all traffic lanes. Additional features, such as pedestrian crossing controls and emergency override signals, are integrated to enhance usability and safety. The design is modular, scalable, and can be adapted to incorporate advanced functionalities, such as adaptive traffic control using real-time sensor inputs. Simulation results demonstrate the system’s ability to handle traffic flows effectively while maintaining simplicity and cost-efficiency. This project lays a foundation for future developments in smart traffic management systems and provides a framework for deploying automated traffic controllers in urban environments.
