Abstract
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles are widely used due to their high stability, photocatalytic activity, and corrosion resistance. They are applied in industrial, medical, and environmental sectors, including water purification, air filtration, and consumer products like sunscreens and cosmetics. However, their environmental impact, particularly on aquatic ecosystems, is a growing concern.TiO2 nanoparticles enter water systems through industrial waste and product disposal, potentially harming aquatic organisms. Their toxicity is linked to oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, leading to cellular damage, immune suppression, and physiological changes in fish. Studies suggest exposure can impair growth, reproduction, and survival while inducing histopathological damage in vital organs. As the use of TiO2 nanoparticles continues to rise, assessing their ecological risks and implementing regulatory measures is crucial. Further research is needed to better understand their long-term effects and ensure their safe application.
