Abstract
Among the four skills integrated in learning English, writing seems to be the biggest challenge to students especially students from disadvantaged areas as Thai Nguyen and some nearby mountainous provinces. The study aimed at addressing factors affecting students’ motivation in writing. First year non-English major students were randomly selected from three classes during the school year 2023-2024 to be respondents in the study. Some suggestions on how to motivate students to write were drawn basing on the results of the study in the hope of helping students find it more involved and interested in writing lessons.
