COLONIALISM AND ITS COMPLEXITIES IN THE WORKS OF J. M. COETZEE

In "Disgrace," Coetzee delves into the personal and ethical dimensions of colonialism, as reflected in the experiences of the protagonist, David Lurie, amidst the backdrop of post-apartheid South Africa. Lurie's journey serves as a microcosm of the moral dilemmas that emerge in the aftermath of colonialism and apartheid, addressing themes of guilt, responsibility, and reconciliation in a post-colonial society. "Waiting for the Barbarians" explores the power dynamics between colonizers and the colonized within an unnamed colonial outpost.
