Abstract
This study was conducted primarily to investigate the effectiveness of Marungko Approach on pupils’ reading development in Matalam Central Elementary School, Matalam South District, Matalam, Cotabato. Utilizing purposive sampling method is done through complete enumeration in selecting the respondents of this study. The Grade 3 Struggling readers of Matalam Central Elementary School, Matalam South District in the school year 2022-2023. Result revealed that the finding of the result implies Marungko approach was highly practice, and its impact on pupils reading development Phonics was outstanding, word recognition was outstanding, fluency was very satisfactory, comprehension was very satisfactory, and vocabulary was satisfactory. Furthermore, the results also revealed that the Marungko Approach and the pupils’ reading development was found to be significantly related to the pupils’ reading development particularly on the phonics, word recognition and comprehension. The statistical analysis revealed that there is a direct proportional relationship between measured variables, implying that the more Marungko Approach practiced by the teacher, the better the pupils’ reading development particularly on phonics, word recognition and comprehension is expected occur and vice versa. A modified framework and intervention plan were also constructed on the result of the study.
