Abstract
This paper proposes a sign language recognition system that utilizes three feature extraction methods, dense neural networks, and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) to accurately recognize American Sign Language (ASL) signs. The system uses OpenCV for detecting various signs and gestures captured through the camera. The hand signs are identified through OpenCV and fed into a classification model generated using CNN to classify the sign alphabet. The accuracy of the system depends on the methods used for classification and prediction, which is achieved through machine learning. The system aims to ease communication difficulties between people with hearing disabilities and others. The smartphone is used as an effective way to bridge the existing gap between the deaf-mute and other people.
