Abstract
As well as external threats, nations can face threats from inside. It's not just that great nations favour and participate in espionage. It's for everyone, large or small. A warrior's weapon, it is used both inside and externally to defend the nation. Whether it's the United Kingdom or the Soviet Union or America, espionage is accepted by all nations. Espionage is necessary for the existence and security of nations. Almost every country engages in some form of espionage, but it takes on many forms. Motivating factors such as those that are historical or political may also exist.
