Abstract
Delayed Coker unit is one of the most revenue generating plants among all other plants of refinery. That is the reason why refiners will not allow any kind of production loss in DCU. But the limitation for refiners here is the unpredictable behavior of one of the most important equipment of plant, Fired Heater. If a fired heater of DCU is shut down then the production loss will be in the range of 20 – 50 percentages. So it will help to enhance service life of heater if we predict the run length of heater. In this research we are developing a model by which we can estimate the run length of the fired heater. For this purpose, we are conducting three independent researches and then we will combine them into one model which will be used to estimate the run length of fired heater. Once the model is derived we will do simulation studies and will compare results with actual data and check the reliability of the model. The three studies going to be conducted are, Heat transfer modelling, Study of two phase flow inside the coil of heaters and modelling of kinetics of Coking process.
