Abstract
Abstract: Two major challenges faced by the school education are high dropout and low attendance. Children dropping out or not attending school has consequences: It results in loss in productivity of the education system as a high dropout rate increases per unit cost of school education, and reduces human resource development. Institute for statistics and global education, 2015monitoring the 47 million students dropped out of school by the 10 the standard. The enrolment of the class 10 is 77%, but enrollment in class 11 is only 52% according to the report from the New Delhi -based institute for policy Research studies. Self-affirmation can help individuals cope with threat or stress and that it might be beneficial for improving academic performance, health and reducing defensiveness. Objectives: To assess the level of self- esteem among school dropout students. To determine the effectiveness of self- affirmation among school drop -out students with low self- esteem. To associate the post-test level of self-esteem with selected demographic variable among school dropout students. Methodology: Research approach: quantitative approach, Pre -experimental, one group pretest and post- test research design was used for 60 samples by purposive sampling technique. Results: It shows that the pretest mean score was 12.82±0.88 and post test mean score was 24.40±2.89. The mean difference score was 11.59 i.e., (29.0%).The calculated paired‘t’ value of t = 28.701was found to be statistically highly significant at p<0.001 level. This clearly indicates that the administration of self -affirmation to the school dropout students was found to be effective in improving the level of self -esteem among school dropout students in the post test.
