Abstract
Leadership aspiration is essential in sustaining a healthy pipeline of future school leaders, especially in public education systems where succession planning depends on teachers who are willing to take on greater responsibility. This study determined the leadership aspirations of elementary and secondary teachers in Cluster 5, Tagbina 1 District, Surigao del Sur Division, as basis for a succession plan. Specifically, it examined achievement aspiration, educational aspiration, leadership aspiration, and cultural and social influence on career aspiration. A quantitative descriptive-survey design was employed, and complete enumeration was used to include all 77 teachers from eight schools in the cluster. Data were gathered through a validated Leadership Aspiration Questionnaire (LAQ) adapted from the Career Aspiration Scale and contextualized for the local school setting. The responses were analyzed using weighted mean and standard deviation. Findings revealed an overall high level of leadership aspiration (M = 4.05, SD = 1.11). Among the four dimensions, achievement aspiration obtained the highest rating (M = 4.45, SD = 0.79) followed by educational aspiration (M = 4.31, SD = 0.91), both interpreted as very high. Leadership aspiration (M = 3.62, SD = 1.29) and cultural and social influence (M = 3.81, SD = 1.24) were rated high, indicating that teachers frequently show interest in leadership roles while also being influenced by family, community expectations, and social recognition. The results suggest that respondents possess strong professional ambition and a clear willingness to grow, but their desire for formal leadership positions is comparatively lower than their desire for achievement and further education. Based on these findings, the study recommends structured leadership development, mentoring, authentic leadership opportunities, and a cluster-based succession plan to strengthen the future leadership pipeline in Tagbina 1 District.
