Abstract
Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, also known as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), is one of the most widely adopted fusion welding processes due to its ability to produce high-quality welds with excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy. The mechanical properties and overall quality of TIG welded joints are highly dependent on welding parameters such as welding current, arc voltage, travel speed, shielding gas flow rate, electrode angle, and electrode-to-workpiece distance. Recent developments in optimization techniques have significantly improved weld quality by reducing defects while enhancing tensile strength, hardness, penetration, and bead geometry. This paper reviews the recent trends in optimization of TIG welding process parameters, focusing on statistical methods, computational intelligence, machine learning, hybrid optimization algorithms, and Industry 4.0-based intelligent welding systems. Future research directions and industrial applications are also discussed.
