Abstract
This study explores the diversity of soil-borne fungi in pomegranate orchards across three localities in the Pravara region. Soil samples were collected from Loni Khurd, Rajuri, and Nirmal Pimpri between January and March 2025 and analyzed for key physico-chemical properties, including pH and moisture content. Fungal isolation was carried out using the soil dilution plate technique on Potato Dextrose Agar medium. Identification of fungal species was performed through detailed morphological and microscopic examination, supported by lactophenol cotton blue staining and standard taxonomic keys. The findings revealed significant variations in fungal species composition among the different orchard sites, indicating the strong influence of local soil characteristics on fungal diversity and distribution. This study enhances understanding of soil fungal communities and their ecological roles, particularly in nutrient cycling and maintaining soil health in pomegranate cultivation systems.
