Abstract
Background: Rhino-orbito-cerebral mucormycosis is a rapidly progressive and life-threatening fungal infection caused by organisms of the order Mucorales. Early diagnosis and aggressive management are essential to improve outcomes.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 23-year-old patient with poorly controlled diabetes who presented with acute facial pain, nasal obstruction, and orbital symptoms. Imaging revealed invasive sinus disease with orbital extension. The patient underwent urgent endoscopic surgical debridement followed by systemic antifungal therapy with Amphotericin B. Histopathological examination confirmed mucormycosis. Favorable clinical evolution was achieved after combined medical and surgical treatment.
Conclusion: Early recognition and prompt multidisciplinary management combining surgical debridement and antifungal therapy are crucial for improving survival in mucormycosis.
