Abstract
Water erosion is one of the most alarming soil degradation processes globally, with severe consequences on agricultural productivity and ecosystem sustainability. In Madagascar, particularly in the central highlands, erosion is especially severe. This study aims to quantify water erosion intensity in a selected zone of the Ankazobe district, Analamanga Region, Madagascar, using the RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) model. The model integrates five key factors: rainfall erosivity (R), soil erodibility (K), topography (LS), vegetation cover (C), and conservation practices (P). These factors were calculated and mapped using GIS techniques and remote sensing data. The results indicate that erosion rates range from 0 to over 200 t/ha/year, with significant losses observed in steep slope areas and zones with degraded vegetation. This assessment highlights critical areas for land management interventions to reduce soil loss and enhance agricultural sustainability.
