Indian post-independence architectural environment was fundamentally redefined with the arrival of modernist philosophies, most notably through the work of the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier. His role in planning Chandigarh in the 1950s was a landmark in Indian architectural development. This research explores how Le Corbusier's principles of architecture inspired and encouraged the projects of prominent Indian architects such as Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi and Charles Correa. This study examines the adaptation, reinterpretation, and contextualization of Le Corbusier's modernist precepts within the Indian context, considering climate, culture, and community. The investigation considers landmark schemes and intellectual affinities, with attention to the way that these architects created their own voices in incorporating the necessary lessons of Le Corbusier's philosophy of architecture.
