Abstract
Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) enhances the fleet of old traditional jeepneys into modern alternatives such as mini buses also known as modernized public utility jeepney, along with modernization is the professionalization of its personnel to enhance its services that will benefit the commuting public, despite its novel goal challenges on its working personnel and implementation continues to emerge. This study determined the profile of mini buses in terms of number of units, accessories installed, sitting capacity, and operating hours; also, the qualifications of mini bus personnel such as driver, conductor, dispatcher, and inspector; at the same time, it describes the challenges encountered by these personnel in their daily job operation. It employed a mixed method – convergent design. Integrates both quantitative and qualitative data. There were two hundred six sample respondents, selected through stratified random sampling to ensure representation in each cooperative. A survey questionnaire developed and unstructured interview were utilized. Frequency count, percentage, and rank were used as statistical tools in the analysis of the collected data. This study concludes that the profile of the mini buses vary. Also, qualified personnel are operating the mini buses. On the other hand, there were challenges encountered by these personnel in their daily operation.
