Abstract
The therapeutic potential of ketamine in treating depression has garnered significant attention due to its rapid and profound effects, particularly in individuals with treatment-resistant depression. This research paper explores the efficacy and mechanisms underlying ketamine's antidepressant properties. Through a comprehensive review of recent clinical trials, preclinical studies, and meta-analyses, we examine ketamine's impact on mood, its pharmacological profile, and its ability to induce rapid symptom relief compared to traditional antidepressants. We also discuss the variations in administration methods, including intravenous and intranasal forms, and their respective outcomes. Additionally, the paper addresses safety concerns, including potential side effects and long-term risks. By integrating insights from psychopharmacology and clinical psychiatry, this study aims to elucidate ketamine's role in contemporary depression treatment strategies and its potential to reshape therapeutic approaches for individuals with severe and persistent depressive disorders.
