Abstract
The study examined Impact of Vocational Agricultural Education on Youth Participation in Commercial Agriculture in Rivers State. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Three objectives and three research questions guided the study. The population of the study consist of 1,848 youths drawn from 32 registered youth associations in Rivers State, out of which 370 (210 female and 160 male) were sampled using proportional sampling techniques. Data were collected using structured questionnaire designed in 5-point Likart rating scale. The questionnaire was face and content validated by the researcher’s supervisor and two other experts from the Faculty of Education, Rivers State University. A reliability coefficient of 0.80 was obtained using Cronbach Alpha. The data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The study revealed that the provision of improved seeds for farmers by the commercial crop agricultural production programmes indicates a significant positive impact on increased production of food stuff, also showed that there is positive link between improved seeds provision and higher agricultural productivity. Based on the findings, the study recommended that Youths should be encouraged to participate more in commercial agriculture as their participation in commercial agriculture will drastically reduce mass unemployment s well as make them to be self-reliant.
