Abstract
The energy consumption of the communications technology industry and related energy-related pollution are becoming major societal and economic concerns. This has spurred academic and industry activity in the new field of green cellular research, recently spurred by the SMART 2020 report and the Green Touch consortium. The ultimate goal is to design new architectures and innovative networking technologies needed to meet the explosive growth of cellular data demand without increasing power consumption. In this article, we focus on optimizing the performance of 5G telecommunications networks through MIMO and millimeter wave techniques.
