Abstract
The yarn produced by the combination of two or more than two fibres either of the same type but different colour or the different types of fibre are known as Melange yarn. These varieties of fancy yarns are widely used in the textile industry in order to produce primarily in hosiery, denim fabrics along with upholstery fabrics and sophisticated stylish fabrics for the garment industry.
Melange yarn offers a great variety of shades however the strength of melange yarn falls as compared to normal grey yarn accordingly to the depth or content of dyed fibres in the blend resulting in a loss in the fibre strength. Accordingly, when yarns are produced from melange mixing there are chances of falling yarn strength based on the yarn configuration. However, a minimum strength level is required in the yarn to perform well in the subsequent processes.
This research primarily deals with a qualitative analysis of the melange yarn produce at different colour fibre depth and from the different spinning system. A basic understanding of melange yarn properties can be obtained by below study. The yarn configuration is directly related to the spinning technique for yarn manufacturing. Therefore it is essential to study the effect of a spinning technique for melange yarn on yarn properties. In the present study, various qualitative parameters such as yarn evenness, imperfection, tenacity, elongation, hairiness and friction have been discussed and compared by changing dyed fibre contribution, spacer and spinning system.
It was observed from the results that the mass irregularity and imperfection were more in normal ring spun melange yarns compared to compact melange yarn. Compact melange yarn, however, showed higher breaking strength and breaking extension with lesser in hairiness & coefficient of friction.
