Abstract
This study aimed to determine the influence of college students’ generative artificial intelligence (GAI) usage behavior on their emotions in mathematics learning. Specifically, a non-experimental quantitative design employing descriptive and correlational methods was utilized using validated, adapted, and modified questionnaires. In particular, GAI usage behavior was measured across nine indicators: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, individual demand, personal innovativeness, behavioral intention, usage behavior, and mathematics motivation. Meanwhile, emotions in mathematics learning were assessed in terms of enjoyment, pride, anger, anxiety, shame, hopelessness, and boredom. Descriptive results revealed that students’ GAI usage behavior was generally high. Similarly, emotions in mathematics learning reflected a mixed pattern, characterized by high levels of both positive and selected negative emotions, while anxiety and shame were observed at low levels. Furthermore, results showed a statistically significant but very weak positive relationship between GAI usage behavior and emotions in mathematics learning. Likewise, an independent t-test revealed no significant difference in GAI usage behavior across genders, while ANOVA indicated a significant difference across year levels, particularly between first- and third-year students. Moreover, linear regression analysis revealed that among the indicators of GAI usage behavior, only personal innovativeness significantly predicted students’ emotions in mathematics learning, while the remaining indicators showed no significant influence. Overall, the findings suggest that while GAI usage behavior is related to emotional learning, its predictive power remains limited, underscoring the importance of fostering students’ openness to technology alongside guided, balanced integration in mathematics education.
