Abstract
Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a widespread health concern affecting a majority of menstruating individuals, often leading to discomfort, reduced mobility, and decreased productivity. Phase 2 of the CYCURA project advances the prototype developed in Phase 1 by refining the material specifications, integrating an enhanced heating and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) module, and conducting comprehensive fabric and physical property tests. The garment now incorporates a Cotton–Modal–Polyester–Lycra interlock knit blend (240 GSM) chosen for its superior thermal stability, stretch recovery, and durability over previously considered alternatives. An ESP32-based microcontroller unit governs both the graphene resistive heating pad and TENS electrodes, providing three-level heat control, adjustable stimulation intensity, and real-time temperature monitoring through a DS18B20 sensor. Battery performance, connector durability, and fabric washability have been validated through systematic testing. User trials on the assembled prototype confirmed effective pain relief, improved mobility, and satisfactory overall comfort. Phase 2 thus culminates in a fully functional and wearable CYCURA prototype ready for further clinical validation and product refinement.
