Abstract
This study, titled Guided by the Queen’s Light: Innovating a Solar-Powered Microgreen Box for a Sustainable Legacy, aims to design and develop an energy-efficient microgreen planting system inspired by Her Majesty the Queen Mother’s advocacy for innovation and environmental sustainability. The project focuses on creating a solar-powered microgreen box suitable for areas with limited sunlight or unstable electricity, ensuring continuous plant growth even during power interruptions. A prototype integrating both solar and plug-in power sources was developed and tested using three different colors of LED lights—blue, red, and white. The findings revealed that using two LED bulbs provided optimal light intensity and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, temperature readings remained consistent, ranging from 28°C to 29°C, regardless of the number of bulbs used. Among the tested light colors, blue LED light produced the best results in promoting microgreen height and leaf development. The study concludes that a solar-powered microgreen system is a viable and sustainable approach to indoor cultivation. By merging renewable energy technology with agricultural innovation, the project embodies the Queen Mother’s guiding light—encouraging environmental care and sustainable living through scientific advancement.
