Abstract
Financial inclusion-universal access to affordable financial services-is vital for poverty alleviation and equitable economic growth. Yet, over 1.4 billion adults remain unbanked, with the majority in low- and middle-income countries. This study investigates barriers such as geographic isolation, inadequate identification, low financial literacy, gender inequalities, and distrust of formal institutions. It evaluates a range of strategies, including mobile money services, agent banking, tiered Know-Your-Customer (KYC) protocols, microfinance initiatives, and public–private partnerships. Technological innovations like biometric authentication and blockchain-enabled remittances are examined for their potential to reduce transaction costs and improve security.Drawing on World Bank Findex data, central bank reports, and primary surveys from Sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, and Latin America, the paper adopts a comparative framework to assess the effectiveness of various interventions. Findings indicate that hybrid models-combining regulatory reforms, infrastructure expansion, digital solutions, and community engagement-deliver the most sustainable inclusion outcomes. The study concludes with a strategic framework for policymakers and financial institutions, emphasizing adaptive regulation, technological adoption, and trust-building.
