Abstract
In Indian theatre, one gets to see a mixture of Sanskrit, folk, Parsi, and Western theatre. Folk theatre can also be called the theatre of spontaneity because its characteristics include speech, language, music, dance, dialogue, acting, etc. In Natya Shastra, its description is found in the form of Lok Dharmi. Folk theatre, with its rich cultural heritage, plays an important role in modern theatre through which modern theatre reconnects with its roots while addressing current social issues. The integration of folk theatre enriches the theatrical landscape and fosters a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity and heritage in the arts. This study will examine the elements of folk theatre in modern productions and the modern dimension of folk theatre tradition in Indian theatre.
